OnePlus to start production in India

oneplusChinese smartphone maker OnePlus on Thursday announced that it will start manufacturing smartphones in India by this December. The OnePlus X Onyx will be the company's first made in India handset to go on sale. OnePlus has recently announced partnership with electronics major Foxconn to begin local assembling operations in Andhra Pradesh.

OnePlus launched two new devices OnePlus X Onyx and a limited Ceramic edition. OnePlus X Onyx is priced at Rs.16,999 and the OnePlus X limited Ceramic edition is priced at Rs.22,999. Both the smartphones will be available on the e-commerce giant Amazon.in through an invite-only model from November.

OnePlus X features a 5-inch display. It is powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core processor coupled with 3GB RAM. It features a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. It comes with 16 GB internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB and it packs a 2,525 mAh battery.

“OnePlus X is a design-centric device, chic and powerful enough to fit any lifestyle. The Onyx also marks our entry into the sub Rs 20,000 range and will help us expand our base further in the country,” OnePlus General Manager India VikasAgarwal said.

The new factory will have a cumulative peak capacity of producing up to 500,000 units per month and will generate direct employment of over 1,000 full time workers.
